BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dermal Fillers at South Texas Eye Institute
In addition to being an experienced refractive surgeon in San Antonio, Dr. Lisa Martén also regularly performs BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal filler procedures.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to temporarily treat glabellar lines on the face, especially between the eyebrows and around the eyes. “Glabellar lines” is just a fancy phrase for those deep wrinkles that appear when you frown or furrow your brow. And in this economy, you may find yourself frowning a lot. Unfortunately, certain Hollywood celebrities have made BOTOX® synonymous with unnaturally high eyebrows, too-wide eyes, and “frog lips.” But those examples are not a result of the standard BOTOX® procedure, rather, extreme plastic surgeries by doctors who won’t stop to tell their patients enough is enough. At South Texas Eye Institute, the BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure is used to temporarily fill in wrinkles while still creating a natural look.
A Range of Possibilities with BOTOX® Cosmetic
Though “temporary” makes BOTOX® sound like a scam, the precision of the procedure allows you to keep up with new wrinkles that form as you age, all the while maintaining a natural look. In addition, because BOTOX® weakens the muscles that cause deep wrinkles and creases on the face, your face uses those muscles less and less, preventing the wrinkles already treated with BOTOX® from getting any deeper. In other words, BOTOX® provides a range of possibilities for your face, so that frequent injections can eliminate deep wrinkles for good, or occasional treatments on just a few areas of the face can maintain a younger look without it being obvious you’ve had the procedure.
Dermal Fillers
The main difference between BOTOX® and fillers is that the former is used mostly to fill in wrinkles that appear while frowning or squinting, whereas the latter can be used to correct irregularities in the skin, like scars or asymmetry, and vary by longevity and thickness. Typically dermal fillers are better suited for larger creases and dips rather than very fine lines like crow’s feet. For example, fillers can be used to fill in irregularities in the nose without performing nose-job surgery, or they can be used to make cheek bones more defined.
