Komal Shah, O.D. is a Therapeutic Optometrist licensed by the Texas Optometry Board. Dr. Shah is originally from New York. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Binghamton University followed by her optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry located in Manhattan, NY.
During her time in optometry school, she performed internship rotations in private practices and specialty clinics that included: vision therapy, pediatrics, specialty contact lenses, and the traumatic brain injury clinic. As a student of SUNY Optometry, Dr. Shah was involved in clinical research, received the Eschenbach Low Vision Award, and was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
Upon graduating from optometry school, Dr. Shah pursued a residency in Ocular Disease and Brain Injury Vision Rehabilitation at the Audie Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio. Her residency training involved managing the care of veterans with glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other various retinal conditions.
The program also emphasized the rehabilitation of ocular problems associated with a traumatic brain injury. During her residency, Dr. Shah had the opportunity to present case reports at the American Academy of Optometry annual meeting.
Dr. Shah is passionate about patient care, however, when she is not in the clinic her hobbies include trying different cuisines and hiking. She is a member of the American Optometric Association.
