How do I prepare for LASIK?
To begin with, your doctor will review the entire procedure with you. They want you to be as comfortable as possible during surgery.

You’ll have a LASIK consultation. During this consultation, they will review your medical history, examine your eyes, and discuss medications you take.
They want to make sure that the procedure is appropriate for your health and vision. Additionally, they will run different tests.
These tests involve looking at the corneal thickness, refraction, eye pressure, pupil dilation, and corneal mapping. Evaluating these traits helps your doctor perform the procedure as accurately as possible.
What happens during LASIK?
Before the procedure starts, you will receive anesthetic eye drops to numb your eyes. You are awake during surgery.
Then, your doctor will use a tool called a speculum to hold your eyelids back. Once your eyes are numb, your doctor will use a laser to make a thin flap in the cornea.
The flap is carefully pulled back and the rest of your cornea is then reshaped with another laser. After reshaping the cornea, the flap is carefully put back into place.
There are no stitches or bandages necessary with LASIK since the flap heals on its own. LASIK takes about 10 – 15 minutes per eye.
Why are the results from LASIK so precise?
LASIK is one of the most precise and safest surgeries available. LASIK is what’s known as a refractive procedure.
It’s performed as a bladeless surgery using an excimer laser and a femtosecond laser. Using lasers instead of blades creates another level of precision and safety.
Some LASIK centers and surgeons do not perform the procedure bladeless. They use a microkeratome to create the flap.
